Millionaire Val Royal, winner of last year's Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT) in stakes-record time of 1:32.05, has been purchased from David Milch by a partnership that includes Lionel Cohen and Newsells Park Stud owner Andreas Jacobs. A 6-year-old son of Royal Academy, Val Royal will stand at Cohen's Odessa Stud in South Africa. Jacobs, who recently bought Graham J. Beck's South Africa farm Maine Chance, is chairman of Gestut Fahrhof in Germany.Val Royal was retired in April because of a recurrence of a tendon problem. Bred by Jean-Luc Legardere and produced from the Bikala mare Vadlava, he won seven of 12 starts and earned $1,186,687. He finished second in Eclipse Award balloting for best grass male last year.
