Amerman Racing's Adoration set moderate fractions while alone on the lead, then held 3-5 favorite High Society in the stretch to win Saturday's $107,300 Senorita Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Hollywood Park. Under Garrett Gomez, the David Hofmans-trained daughter of Honor Grades completed the mile in 1:34.91 on firm turf.
"She's a little fighter," said Gomez. "She got out there on the lead, and actually I got her to relax too much. She got on the first turn and started to look a lot. She looks at shadows, goes to thinking too much. But once I got some company up there beside her, she got her game-face on. She went to running when we turned for home. She really dug in."
Adoration finished three-quarters of a length ahead of High Society, with Nunatall third. Red Little Lies, Daisyago, and Forty On Line completed the order of finish.
In her lone prior stakes race, Adoration finished eighth of nine in the Santa Anita Oaks (gr. I). In her most recent outing, she finished second in an optional claiming race while making her turf debut. She earned $64,830 for the win, her second in five starts.
Adoration paid $14.60, $4, and $3 and led a $1 exacta worth $14.50.
Adoration (Honor Grades -- Sewing Lady, by Key to the Mint) was bred by Lucy G. Bassett and sold for $40,000 as a yearling. (Chart, Equibase
