Anofferucantrefuse Upsets McDynamo in Aitcheson Hurdle Stakes

Fox Ridge Farm's homebred Anofferucantrefuse beat favored McDynamo to the early lead, then was shadowed by that rival throughout the 2 1/8 mile course of the Joe Aitcheson Hurdle Stakes (NSA-I) en route to a two-length win Friday at Pimlico. Under Roger Horman, the Tom Voss-trained son of Red Ransom completed the second jewel of the Steeplechase Triple Crown in 3:41.74 on a firm course.

"He jumped brilliant the whole way and was quick away from his hurdles the whole time," said Horgan, an Irish native who won his first grade I. "If you're going to beat McDynamo, you're going to beat him from in front. That was my plan. This horse hasn't run since Aug. 20 last year so for the boss to bring him out here and have him run like that it tells you how sharp he is. He knows exactly how his horses are doing."

Ethical Actions finished third, followed by Dixie's Crown, Sharp Face, Understood, Miles Ahead, Geaux Beau, Seek, and Taireallade.

Anofferucantrefuse, a 5-year-old bred in Kentucky, paid $18.60 for the win and topped a $48.60 exacta. (Chart, Equibase)
