Irish jockey Johnny Murtagh guided Maktoum Al Maktoum's No Excuses Needed to a head win in the group II Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Murtagh, who was the leading jockey at last year's Royal Ascot meeting, kicked No Excuses Needed into high gear about a furlong and a half from the wire and traded head bobs with Tillerman from there on, before catching him at the wire. It was three lengths back to Tough Speed, who just edged Nayyir, who was sent out as co-favorite with Frenchmans Bay, who finished ninth.
The running time for the one-mile event was 1:40.66.
Also on Tuesday at Royal Ascot, Dominica held off Continent by a head to take the group II King's Standard Stakes. Favorite Kyllachy was a half-length back in third. The winner covered the five furlongs in 1:00.89.
The daughter of Alhaarth was the lone 3-year-old in the field of 15 fillies and mares and was making her seasonal debut for trainer Marcus Tregoning.
