Breeder Gerald Leigh Succumbs to Cancer

Gerald Leigh, one of England's top breeders who also had success in North America, has died following a long battle with cancer, according to the Racing Post. Leigh owned Eydon Hall Stud in Northhamptonshire, England.

Among the top horses bred by Leigh were Barathea, winner of the 1994 Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT) and the previous year's Irish Two Thousand Guineas (Ire-I), Bosra Sham, winner of the One Thousand Guineas (Eng-I) in 1996, and Gossamer, winner of this year's Entenmann's Irish One Thousand Guineas (Ire-I). Last year Leigh was named English flat breeder of the year by the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association.
