'Sunshine' Hopes to Brighten Churchill's Aristides

He might be 10 years old, but David Holloway's Bet On Sunshine is preparing to compete in the June 29 Aristides Handicap, a grade III event he has won the past two years.

Churchill Downs said the field for the 6 1/2-furlong race could also lure Orientate, winner of Keeneland's Commonwealth Breeders' Cup; D'Wildcat, winner of the Churchill Downs Handicap via disqualification; Binthebest, third in the Churchill Downs Handicap; and No Armistice, runner-up to Kona Gold in the Los Angeles Handicap at Hollywood Park.

Bet On Sunshine, by Bet Big, breezed five furlongs in 1:01.20 at Churchill June 23. Trainer Paul McGee said Bet On Sunshine continues to train well.

"I don't see how he could have gone any better," McGee said.

In his last start May 15, Bet On Sunshine finished fourth in a 6 1/2-furlong allowance race at Churchill Downs. McGee blames himself for that effort; he said he trained Bet On Sushine too hard in the weeks leading up to the race.

Bet On Sunshine has won 22 of 44 career starts. He has finished third twice in the Breeders' Cup Sprint.
