Imadeed Euthanized

Imadeed, who was involved in a spill at Belmont Park on Belmont Stakes Day, was euthanized on June 20. The 5-year-old mare was owned by Claiborne Farm near Paris, Ky.

Imadeed (Alydeed--Imah, by Gate Dancer) fell in the stretch of the WNBC Stakes June 8. She had taken the lead in the turn, but then relinquished it as they straightened for home. Imadeed bobbled just before going down in the Belmont stretch. She was removed from the track by ambulance. It was determined by X-ray she suffered torn suspensory ligaments in her right foreleg.

Another runner, Pleasant County, fell over Imadeed. She hit her head, injuring her skull, and died instantly.

Imadeed was flown to Lexington where she was under the care of Dr. Larry Bramlage at Rood & Riddle equine clinic. Bramlage was waiting on blood circulation to improve before surgery could be performed. It never improved to a satisfactory level, at which time Claiborne Farm head Seth Hancock gave Bramlage permission to euthanize the 5-year-old mare.

Imadeed won six of 17 races and earned $213,380.
