Inesperado might feel more inspiration than usual when he lines up for the $200,000-added Cinema Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Hollywood Park Sunday. The European import will be making his United States debut, and will be running just one week after the death of his co-owner, Audrey Skirball-Kenis.
Along with husband Charles Kenis, the couple raced in the name of 3+U Stable, and have campaigned a string of stars with conditioner Bobby Frankel, including Super Quercus, Mazel Trick, See You Soon, Northern Quest, Sixieme Sens, Uncharted Haven, The Seven Seas, and Millie's Quest. Frankel also trains Inesperado.
Inesperado, a listed stakes winner with four wins from nine starts in France, has been working steadily since joining Frankel's barn in April. Also possible for the nine-furlong contest will be The Thoroughbred Corp. entry of Regiment and Johar; Mananan McLir, Sunkosi, Gobi Dan, and Point Prince. Regiment is the highweight at 122 pounds.
