McCaffery, Anson Elected to TOC Board of Directors

Trudy McCaffery and Ron Anson have been elected by the members of the Thoroughbred Owners of California to serve on the organization's board of directors. Ron Charles, Jack B. Owens, and Donald Valpredo were re-elected to the board.

At the July 11 TOC board meeting, Owens was re-elected chairman for a second term. Charles was again named vice chairman, and Donna Arnold treasurer. John Amerman and Tom Bachman will serve as vice presidents of the TOC.

McCaffery, who also sits on the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association board and is the founder of Kids to the Cup, has raced such successful runners as Santa Anita Derby winner Came Home, Pacific Classic winner Free House, and Hollywood Turf Cup winner Bien Bien with partner John Toffan.

Anson and his wife, Susie, have a large stable that includes Oak Leaf Stakes winner Tali'sluckybusride. Anson operates his own accounting firm.

Owens replaced Gary Burke as TOC chairman in 2001 following Burke's death in August. An owner and breeder for 20 years, Owens is the executive vice president of Gallo Winery and also serves as the company's general counsel.

Other TOC board members are Drew Couto, Robert Lewis, Don Rego, Mace Siegel, and John Van de Kamp, who serves as the organization's president and general counsel.
