Summer Colony Looks Hot in Delaware Handicap

A field of 10 fillies and mares will contest the $600,000 Delaware Handicap (gr. III) at 1 1/4 miles Sunday at Delaware Park. The Edward P. Evans entry of Summer Colony and Unrestrained has been installed the 8/5 favorite.

Summer Colony is the main reason for the backing. The 4-year-old daughter of Summer Squall has already taken down the La Canada Stakes (gr. II) and the Pimlico Breeders' Cup Distaff Handicap (gr. III) this year, and was second in her most recent outing, the Molly Pitcher Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II), missing by one length to Atelier. Summer Colony has won seven of 15 lifetime starts and earned better than $500,000. Mark Hennig trains both halves of the Evans entry.

Other contenders include Critical Eye, trying to recapture her stakes-winning form from a year ago; Two Item Limit; California shipper Starrer; Catch the Ring; and Pompeii.
