Colonial Downs Up Across the Board

Colonial Downs' meet that ended Tuesday did so on a high note. The track's figures reflect increases in attendance and on-track handle.

Total attendance for the 26 day meet was up 18% to 57,293. The average attendance of 2,204 increased 13% from last year's figures. The on-track handle of $4,971,500 showed a 20% and set a new track record and total handle of $31,035,401 also set a record.

Jockey Horatio Karamanos won the meet title and became the first jockey in the track's history to top $1 million earnings. His 215 mounts notched 57 victories and earned $1,022,039. Mario Pino finished second in the standings.

Hamilton Smith topped all trainers and finished one win ahead of his closest rival, Ferris Allen. Smith finished with 14 wins.
