Wide Open Go For Wand Tops Saratoga's Sunday

A strong field of seven fillies and mares will line up for Sunday's 49th running of the $250,000 Go for Wand (gr. I) over nine furlongs at Saratoga. The race will be televised live by ESPN beginning at 6 p.m. eastern.

With Ability figures to be put on the lead. The 4-year-old daughter of A.P. Indy is coming off a solid second to Spain in the Fleur De Lis Handicap at Churchill Downs. "She's doing wonderful," said trainer Mark Hennig. "She loves two turns, and I can tell you she's going to run big."

Trainer John Kimmel, who won the 1997 Go for Wand with Hidden Lake, is hoping Miss Linda repeats that feat. Miss Linda captured the Spinster (gr. I) at Keeneland last fall and will be highweighted in the Go for Wand. The Southern Halo mare has been off nearly four months with an infected hock. She last raced in the Apple Blossom (gr. I), setting the pace before tiring for third behind Azeri.

Dancethruthedawn was fourth in last year's Alabama Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga, but trainer Mark Frostad hopes for a better result this time around. "She had a long campaign and was a tired horse in the Alabama," he said. Dancethruthedawn ran third in the Fleur De Lis.
