Dublin is the 57th stakes winner for Carson City. The stallion has six other stakes winners this year, including grade I winner Carson Hollow. Carson City stands at W.T. Young's Overbrook Farm near Lexington. His 2002 fee was $35,000.
An Irish-bred son of Kentucky-based Carson City captured Wednesday's Champagne Victor Vintage Stakes (Eng-III) at Goodwood. Dublin (Carson City--Lustre, by Halo) finished the seven furlongs 1 1/4 lengths ahead of his nearest rival, Bourbonnais. Both the first and second-place finishers are owned by Sheikh Mohammed of Dubai. Dublin is a homebred, while Bourbonnais was purchased for $37,997 at last year's Tattersalls October sale from Watership Down stud. The Champagne Victor Vintage, for 2-year-olds, was only the third start for Dublin. The colt began the race near the back of the 10-horse pack and gradually worked his way forward, until, with just over 100 yards remaining to the wire, he got his nose in front. Sarayat, who is owned by Sheikh Ahmed al Maktoum, finished third.
