Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner War Emblem was reported in good shape this morning, following Tuesday's sizzling 5-furlong work in 57 3/5 seconds for Sunday's $1-million, grade I Pacific Classic.Trainer Bob Baffert said, "Everything is fine, right now. We'll know more tomorrow [Thursday]. We have to see how he's doing. If he wasn't doing good, I wouldn't run him, but as of now, we're considering running."Meanwhile, two other Classic hopefuls -- Jimmy Z and Momentum -- polished off their preparations with solid workouts over the Del Mar main track this morning.Jimmy Z, with Patrick Valenzuela in the irons for trainer Ron McAnally, clicked off 5 furlongs in 1:00 4/5. Momentum, second to Hollywood Gold Cup winner Sky Jack, went 3 furlongs in :35 2/5. A hundred miles to the north, at Hollywood Park, Bosque Redondo was clocked in :49 2/5 for a half-mile.Jimmy Z is one of three horses expected to be saddled by trainer McAnally. The others are Seinne and Tapatio.The only workers remaining prior to the race will be Came Home, who is scheduled to travel three furlongs at Hollywood Park Thursday for trainer Paco Gonzalez, and Grey Memo, scheduled to work a half-mile Friday for trainer Warren Stute.
Gonzalez said he would ship Swaps Stakes winner Came Home and Bosque Redondo, who reportedly will attempt to make sure there is a quick pace for the race, to Del Mar on race day. A prospective field of 14 is expected, including the Gonzalez-trained entry. The others are Gold Cup winner Sky Jack, Santa Anita Handicap hero Milwaukee Brew, Arbiter, Bonus Pack, Pleasantly Perfect and Speedy Pick. As of this morning, no riders had been named on Seinne and Speedy Pick.
