Congaree, who suffered a quarter crack earlier in the week, passed his first test by galloping well Thursday morning, but trainer Bob Baffert said they still won't know anything for sure until closer to the race.

"We laced it up and kept it open, and so far it looks good," Baffert said. "But we still need to get lucky. You never know with these quarter cracks when something is going to change. I told (owner) Bob McNair this morning we probably won't know anynthing for sure until right before the race. But he looks great and feels great, and there's no sign of soreness. But he does have a quarter crack. I'm hoping to work him on Saturday or Sunday, and we should know more when we put more pressure on it."

Congaree was one of 13 horses pre-entered for the Breeders' Cup Classic - Powered by Dodge (gr. I). He will be ridden for the first time by Pat Valenzuela.
