Day Trader Easily Best in Kentucky Cup Sprint

Overbrook Farm's Day Trader was an easy winner of Saturday's $150,000 Kentucky Cup Sprint (gr. III) for 3-year-olds at Turfway Park, breaking alertly and drawing away from the field before tallying by three lengths.

The D. Wayne Lukas-trained son of Phone Trick was ridden by Pat Day.

Day Trader was a distant fourth in his most recent start, the King's Bishop (gr. I) at Saratoga Aug. 24 on a sloppy track.

Sent off at 3-1, Day Trader was timed in 1:10.01 for six furlongs.

Lukas said after the race that Day Trader would be pointed to the Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I), but that he would consider another prep race before the Oct. 26 championship.

Day Trader recorded his fourth win in 12 starts, and his first in a graded stakes. The $90,000 first prize increased his career earnings to about $280,000.

Day Trader paid $8.60, $5.20 and $3.60. Premier Performer was second and returned $12.20 and $6.40. Ecstatic was third and paid $3.
