Gygistar Withdrawn from Sprint; Forbidden Apple Among Workers

Gygistar, who has missed training time after injuring a hoof in a stall accident Oct. 11, was officially declared out of the Breeders' Cup Sprint on Friday. Trained by Mark Hennig, Gygistar had been questionable since he sustained a cut on his left front hoof in the stall accident.

The defection of Gygistar opened the door for Thunderello, one of two horses on the preference list for the Sprint, to draw in. Thunderello and My Cousin Matt, the other horse on the preference list, are both trained by Scott Lake.

With a light rain falling and the temperatures hovering in the high 30s, there were no workouts at Arlington Park Friday, although many of the Breeders' Cup participants that already in Chicago galloped over the track initially labeled fast and then downgraded to good.

In workout activity Friday, Mile contender Forbidden Apple worked a half-mile on turf in :50 3/5 at Belmont Park, with Bob Chapman aboard.

At Santa Anita, Sprint entrant D'Wildcat worked three furlongs in :36 2/5.

At Laurel Park, 2-year-old Toccet, who will start in the Juvenile, worked seven furlongs in 1:27.
