Jockey Pat Day was aboard Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) contender Whywhywhy for the first time Tuesday when the Hall of Famer worked the Mr. Greeley colt at Arlington Park.Whywhywhy, winner of three consecutive graded stakes since finishing second in his career debut, worked four furlongs in :52 4/5. The fractional times were :14 3/5, :28 3/5, and :40 3/5. The colt galloped out five furlongs in 1:05 and he was pulled up three-quarters of a mile in 1:19 2/5."He's fit and ready," proclaimed trainer Patrick Biancone. "The work was to get Pat and the horse to get to know each other. Pat is happy with the horse and the horse is happy with Pat."In another work at Arlington Tuesday, Disturbingthepeace breezed a half-mile in :47 2/5 and galloped out five furlongs in 1:02 1/5 as he continued to prepare for the NAPA Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I). The Darrel Vienna-trained son of Bold Badgett went in fractional times of :12 and :23 2/5 for the first quarter mile. Disturbingthepeace comes into Saturday's race with a six-race win streak, including victories in three grade II stakes. Two horses preparing for grass races on the Cup card were on the track Tuesday morning.Riskaverse, winner of the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup who is prepping for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (gr. I), was timed in :54 1/5 for a half-mile work "around the dogs" over the Arlington turf. "Around the dogs" refers to cones placed in the middle of the turf track, with horses working to the outside of those cones. The fractional times for Riskaverse, a 3-year-old daughter of Dynaformer trained by Pat Kelly, were :14 1/5, :27 2/5, and :41.Kelly said Riskaverse was not really breezing Tuesday but was going a "two-minute clip" and the clockers went ahead and timed her for a workout."I just wanted her to stretch her legs and check out the turf and to get a fill for her surroundings," Kelly said. "I just want to keep her sharp and keep her happy. We will just leave the rest up to her."Also working a half-mile "around the dogs" on the grass was Nuclear Debate, who is scheduled to go in the Mile (gr. I). The 7-year-old gelded son of Geiger Counter breezed four furlongs in :53, with exercise rider Rhett Fincher up."The old guy is coming up to this race great," trainer Darrel Vienna said, noting that a decision was finally made to send Nuclear Debate to Woodbine for a victory in the Atto Mile. "I wanted to go to Japan and run him in two sprints but Mr. Herrick (owner Bill Herrick) said, 'Let's try Canada and then we could go to the Breeders' Cup'."
