The essays of Heywood Hale Broun, a colorful voice of the Triple Crown for CBS, are coming back to television in a new 13-week series called Woodie's World on ESPN Classic, debuting Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.
The essays are about the America of the 1960's and 70's and were seen every Saturday night for a decade on the CBS Evening News. Thoroughbred racing, in this season of the series, will feature pieces on Secretariat, Manny Ycaza, Bill Veeck at Suffolk Downs and Hobby Horse Hall in Nassau.
Broun and producer Bud Lamoreaux were a television team exploring America during that period for the big stories and the not-so-little ones. Lamoreaux is the narrator of the series.
