The sale's second and final session is Friday.
The Tattersalls Autumn yearling sale started in strong fashion Thursday in England, easily eclipsing last year's figures. The upswing included a record price for a yearling at the auction of 47,000 guineas ($76,845). The opening day's trade saw 154 lots sold for 1,190,500 guineas ($1,946,468), an enormous increase of 126% on last year's opening day total. The average rose 64% to 7,730 guineas ($12,639) while the median advanced 83% while reaching 5,500 guineas ($8,993).Jo Scholfield ventured to the Tattersalls foal aale last December and purchased a Mind Games gelding for 850 guineas. Scholfield reoffered the yearling out of Pondicherry in the consignment of her employer, Jamie Railton, and saw her investment reap a huge return as the gelding topped the session with a record price. He was purchased by Newmarket-based bloodstock agent Dwayne Woods, who said the gelding would probably go to Hong Kong.
