Southern Halo to Japan

Southern Halo, sire of 107 stakes winners, has been leased to JS Company for the 2003 stallion season in Japan. The 19-year-old son of Halo stood the 2002 season for $15,000 at Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky.

Part of the allure over Southern Halo stems from the fact that he shares the same sire as the great Japanese stallion Sunday Silence. Sunday Silence, who died this year, led the Japanese sire list for a number of years and ranks first this year as well. Southern Halo, who was produced from the Northern Dancer mare Northern Sea, currently holds court at Haras La Quebrada in Argentina.
