Take Charge Lady in Bullet Work at Churchill

Multiple grade I winner Take Charge Lady zipped a half-mile in :47 2/5 at Churchill Downs on Thursday as the Ashland and Spinster Stakes winner prepped for the 1 1/8-mile Falls City Handicap (gr. II) on Nov. 28.

Ridden by jockey Patricia Cooksey, Take Charge Lady had the fastest time of43 horses wokring that distance at the Louisville, Ky. track Thursday.

"She dragged me to the pole and dragged me around there the whole way," said Cooksey. "She was waiting for me to 'smooch' to her to do something, but I just kind of sat on her. I think we hit the button."

Take Charge Lady, sixth in the Breeders' Cup Distaff Oct. 26, could run back in the $275,000 Great State Challenge Distaff on Dec. 7 at Sam Houston Park if all goes well in the Falls City.

"We've got a 10-day window and that's not ideal, but we're talking about it," said trainer Ken McPeek. "We'd give her the rest of the year off and probably wouldn't run again until spring."

Other McPeek contenders for the Great State Challenge include Louisville Handicap dead-heat winner Pisces in the turf and a pair of 2-year-old fillies -- Kentucky-bred Midnight Cry and Florida-bred Fabulous Brush -- in the Juvenile Fillies race.
