Valenzuela Back After South Pacific Honeymoon

Jockey Patrick Valenzuela was back at Hollywood Park exercising horses Friday, sporting a new wedding ring and a dark tan.

Valenzuela, 40, has not ridden since Nov. 3, closing day of the Oak Tree meet at Santa Anita. He began a 15-day suspension for riding infractions deferred from the Del Mar meet immediately thereafter. The suspension runs through Nov. 24.

Valenzuela used the down time to marry the former Valerie Hays Nov. 9 and take a nine-day honeymoon on the South Pacific islands of Tahiti and Bora Bora.

"It was good to get refreshed and spend time with the person you love," said Valenzuela after exercising a filly for trainer Bobby Frankel.

Valenzuela has taken calls Dec. 1 in the $500,000 Matriarch (gr. IT) on Golden Apples and the $500,000 Hollywood Derby (gr. IT) on Mananan McLir.

Valenzuela, the leading rider at the spring/summer meet at Hollywood, plans to be back in the saddle for races on Wednesday.
