Trainer Todd Pletcher is considering both the $400,000 Clark Handicap (gr. II) at Churchill Downs and the $350,000 Cigar Mile Handicap (gr. I)at Aqueduct for Harlan's Holiday. The Clark will be contested on Friday and the Cigar on Saturday.
The New York-based trainer said he expects to make a final decision on Wednesday, although he could cross-enter Harlan's Holiday in both races. Entries for the Clark will be made on Wednesday with entries for the Cigar taken on Thursday.
The 3-year-old son of Harlan, who is owned by Jack and Laurie Wolf's Starlight Stable, last finished ninth in the Oct. 26 Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) and finished third in the Sept. 28 Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I).
Harlan's Holiday was removed from trainer Kenny McPeek's barn in May following a fourth-place finish in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I). In her first start for Pletcher, Harlan's Holiday won the Sept. 2 Pennsylvania Derby (gr. III).
In other news concerning the Pletcher stable, 2-year-old Boston Bull, owned by Dogwood Stable, is being considered for Saturday's $250,000 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (gr. II), also at Churchill Downs. Boston Bull won the Oct. 13 Cowdin Stakes (gr. III) at Belmont.
