At this point, live racing is planned each day through New Years Day. The next scheduled dark day is Jan. 2.As of Saturday, no progress was reported in the contractual dispute between horsemen and Greenwood Racing, Inc., the parent corporation of Philadelphia Park, which means the track could close again on Wednesday. The horsemen's association must vacate the track's stable area on Jan. 6 in the event of such a shutdown, Greenwood President Hal Handel said.
Philadelphia Park, closed to live racing for three consecutive days due to unsafe conditions caused by bad winter weather, was back in action Sunday, when it completed a nine-race card. Track Superintendent Roy Smith said track maintenance staff worked countless hours to get the track into racing shape Sunday. On Saturday, following morning workouts, jockeys and trainers met and determined the surface was not ready. The track continued to operate a full simulcast schedule during the closure.
