Toccet to Make 2003 Debut in Fountain of Youth

Daniel Borislow's Toccet, a contender for an Eclipse Award as champion 2-year-old male of 2002, will make his 3-year-old debut in Gulfstream Park's Fountain of Youth (gr. I) on Feb. 15. A son of Awesome Again trained by John Scanlan, Toccet won four graded stakes at four different tracks last year. He will train up to the Fountain of Youth at Scanlan's Laurel Park base.

The Fountain of Youth, one of two Gulfstream Park graded preps for the March 15, $1-million Florida Derby, is also expected to draw John Oxley's Sky Mesa, an unbeaten Pulpit colt trained by John Ward, who won the Florida and Kentucky Derbys with Monarchos in 2001; Einar P. Robsham's Trust n Luck, a multiple stakes winner trained by Florida-based Ralph Ziadie; and Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey's Ten Cents a Shine, trained by Ken McPeek.

The first race in the Florida Derby series, the Jan. 18 Holy Bull (gr. III), is expected to attract undefeated and Canadian Sovereign Award runner-up Added Edge, who is trained by Mark Casse for Team Valor Stables and Robert J. Wilson; Starlight Stable & Barbara Kurtin's Bham, who was second to Toccet last out in the Remsen Stake (gr. II) at Aqueduct for trainer Todd Pletcher; Sackatoga Stable's undefeated New York-bred Funny Cide; and Stronach Stable's Powerful Touch, also trained by McPeek.

Wertheimer Farm's Indy Dancer and Peachtree Stable's Lion Tamer, two impressive allowance winners at Gulfstream on Jan. 4 for trainer Pletcher, are also candidates for the Florida Derby series.
