Average Slips at First Open Session of OBSC Winter Sale

Extreme Change, a 10-year-old mare by Copelan out of stakes placed Ideal Exchange went to Gaspar Rivera for $25,000 to top the first of two Open sessions of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2003 Winter Mixed Sale. Nancy J. Bauman consigned the bay mare, in foal to Devil's Bag, a full sister to stakes winners Quality Exchange, Basic Exchange and Ideal Change.

The session's high-priced yearling was a colt by Intidab out of Kheyrahm by Dayjur, consigned by Lakland and sold to Cordebes, Ltd. for $21,000.

Hunting Jade, a mare by Jade Hunter infoal to Time Bandit was sold to James & Janeane Everatt for $20,000. Consigned by Red Oak Farm, the 7-year-old bay mare is out of stakes winner Danzig Darling, by Danzig, and is a half sister to stakes winners Misnomer and Darling Danzig.

For the session 193 horses sold for a total of $805,600, compared with 250 horses bringing a total of $1,313,500 in 2002's single Open session. The average price was $4,174, compared with $5,254 a year ago, while the median price was $2,700 compared with $3,700 last year. The buyback percentage was 21.9%; it was 18.3% in 2002. Gaspar Rivera was the session's leading buyer, spending a total of $44,000.

The Winter Mixed Sale concludes Wednesday with a second open session beginning at 11:00 a.m.
