Sise's Santa Monica Hopefuls on Their Toes

(from track report)
Trainer Cliff Sise Jr. fired two bullets Saturday morning at Santa Anita, when he sent out Santa Monica Handicap (gr. I) probables Kitty On The Track and Reine des Neiges.

Kitty On The Track worked five furlongs on Santa Anita's fast main track in :58.20 with Laffit Pincay Jr. riding, best of 60 workouts at the distance. Reine des Neiges went six furlongs in 1:10.60, best of 18 drills at the distance.

Both were prepping for Saturday's $200,000 Santa Monica, which is for fillies and mares 4 and up at seven furlongs.

"She worked about as good as I've ever seen a horse work," Sise said of Kitty On The Track, who finished third in the Jan. 3 Survive Stakes despite losing all chance at the start when she was bumped and bobbled, causing minor injuries to her.

"They better be ready, because they've got to beat Sightseek," he added. "I just told Laffit to shade a minute flat, like maybe :59 and change, but you never saw a horse go so easy in :58 1/5. And they both cleaned the feed tub last night, which is a very good sign."

"It's not that tough a race, so there's a good chance to let her (Reine Des Neiges) set the pace and let Kitty sit right off of her and slow the pace down a little bit."
