The Gang's Still Here

The elder statesmen of the Bluegrass continue to enjoy their comfortable way of life at Graham J. Beck's Gainesway Farm near Lexington. "They look their age, but are getting along fine," said farm representative Annette Covault about prominent pensioned stallions Lyphard, 34; Stop the Music, 33; and Irish River, 27. "They just keep rambling along.

"The responsibility of caring for pensioned stallions is letting them live out their days as long as possible. Our old teaser Woody deserves the same kind of treatment, and is getting it."

Lyphard, a son of Northern Dancer, stood in France before being imported to stand at Gainesway, and Stop the Music, by Hail to Reason, held court at Greentree Stud before ending up a Gainesway stallion. Irish River, by deceased farm stallion Riverman, has called Gainesway home since his retirement from racing.
