Steve Haskin's Derby Watch: Week 3 (Cont.)

17 -- Trust N Luck/Ralph Ziadie; Montbrook-Bold Burst, by Dahar

We should find out if his brilliant 11-length romp in the Whatapleasure was a fluke or if he's that talented? His speed figures were from another planet. Broodmare sire is a son of the great Dahlia. Should have no problem stretching out.

18 -- Peace Rules/Bobby Frankel; Jules-Hold to Fashion, by Hold Your Peace

Frankel to test him on the dirt in Risen Star Stakes. Drilled sharp 6 furlongs in 1:12 4/5 at Hollywood Park. His two stakes victories have come on the grass, but his breeding says dirt, and he runs like a dirt horse.

KNOCKING ON THE DOOR: CHAMPALI had no trouble winning WEBN Stakes at Turfway. Tough, honest horse, but distance is still a question. Michael Tabor has said HOLD THAT TIGER will not run in the Kentucky Derby and will point for the English Derby instead, but trainer Aidan O'Brien was not aware of that decision. Lukas has OZZIE CAT sharp and ready, and may ship east for the Fountain of Youth; worked 5 furlongs in :59 3/5. MIDAS EYES had a strong work in company with Empire Maker, and should debut in 7-furlong allowance race next week. Keep and eye on Touch Gold colt REGION OF MERIT, an impressive alowance winner at Gulfstream who is back working at Payson Park for Chris Clement. Frankel said the promising GHOSTZAPPER is still recuperating from a foot problem and won't make the Derby. TRUCKLE FEATURE, who takes on Empire Maker in Friday's Sham Stakes, worked 5 furlongs in :59 1/5 for Baffert. Another Sham starter, TEN MOST WANTED, worked 5 furlongs in 1:02 at Hollywood for Wally Dollase; brilliant maiden winner. Undefeated GREY COMET tries to make it 5-for-5 in Saturday's Whirlaway Stakes at Aqueduct. MINISTERS WILD CAT breezed 7 furlongs in 1:28 3/5 for Neil Drysdale. ATSWHATIMTALKNBOUT, who couldn't threaten Apalachian Thunder in allowance race, breezed a half in :48 2/5; that race should help him.
