In addition to his wife, Dudley is survived by his mother, Phyllis; a brother, Jack; and a sister, Donna. Jack Dudley died in the fall of 1998. Silver Charm's breeder, Mary Lou Wootton, died in February.
Scott Dudley, who raised champion Silver Charm at his Florida farm, died March 12 after a lengthy battle with cancer.Dudley and his wife, Diane, maintained the Dudley Farm operation founded by his father, Jack Dudley, in the mid-1950s. Located near Ocala, Fla., the farm was the birthplace of 1997 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and Preakness Stakes (gr. I) winner Silver Charm, who was champion 3-year-old male. Scott Dudley, who served for a time on the board of directors of the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders Association, and Diane won the Bruce Campbell Award for 1997.Jack Dudley raced champion Needles with the late Bonnie Heath. As a 3-year-old in 1956, Needles became the first Florida-bred to win the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes and earn a national championship. He is a member of the racing Hall of Fame.
