Edited from a Keeneland release
Champion filly Storm Flag Flying, undefeated Lady Tak, and the sensational Ivanavinalot are just a few of the top three-year-old fillies nominated to Keeneland's $500,000-added, grade I Ashland Stakes scheduled to be run on Saturday, April 5.
Keeneland's spring meeting begins on Friday, April 4 and continues through Friday, April 25. The Ashland is one of 19 stakes races--14 graded--to be run during the 15-day meeting.
Ogden Mills Phipps' Eclipse Award-winning Storm Flag Flying, undefeated winner of the 2002 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I), heads the stellar group of 67 nominees. Heiligbrodt Racing Stable's Lady Tak is a perfect five-for five in her career, most recently capturing the Fair Grounds Oaks in New Orleans. Gilbert C. Campbell's Ivanavinalot took the Bonnie Miss Stakes at Gulfstream Park in her latest trip to the post.
Joining them on the list of nominees are multiple stakes-winners Atlantic Ocean owned by Thoroughbred Corp.; Castle Rock Racing Stable and Mahler's Belle of Perintown, and J. Paul Reddam's grade I winner Elloluv. Also nominated: Claiborne Farm's Yell, fresh off her Davona Dale (gr. II) victory; Stoneledge Racing Stables, Bloch and Milner's Golden Rod (gr. II) winner My Boston Gal; Oasis Stable's A.M. Fisher Debutante victress Ruby's Reception; John and Glenn Sikura's Handpainted, who captured the Ontario Debutante; and G. Watts Humphrey's Junior Champion Stakes winner Final Round.
This will be the 66th running of the Ashland, which was named for the Lexington homestead and breeding farm of statesman Henry Clay. Some great fillies have contributed to the rich history of the race including former winners Silverbulletday, My Flag, Go for Wand, Princess Rooney, Blush With Pride, Blue Norther and Bewitch. Ashland Inc. has sponsored this race since 1986. Nominees for the grade I, $500,000-added Ashland Stakes
