Day Wins Five at Turfway Park

Jockey Pat Day blew into Turfway Park Saturday from his winter base Gulfstream Park and came away with five wins on the Lane's End Stakes (gr. II) undercard, including three stakes victories.

Only a loss by neck to New York Hero in the Lane's End aboard Eugene's Third Son kept the afternoon from being perfect for the Hall of Fame rider.

Day's biggest victory was his last one with with Private Gold, owned by Mountain Top Racing and Bob and Beverly Lewis, in the $100,000 Rushaway Stakes for 3-year-olds, which was the ninth event on the 12-race card.

He started the win machine in the third, an allowance race, aboard WinStar Farm's Alienated. He tallied in the fifth, a Maiden Special Weight, on Randy Pellegrin's Mauk Eight. The he won stakes with John H. Peace's Belle Artiste in the sixth race, the $50,000 Queen Stakes, and Overbrook Farm's Quick Draw in the seventh, the $50,000 Hansel Stakes.

Day came within one win of the track's single-day record set by Kris Prather on Feb. 11, 2001.
