Ifyouprefersilver, Lakenheath Head Lady Hallie Filed

(from track report)
A field of five older fillies and mares passed the entry box at Hawthorne Race Course for the $100,000 Lady Hallie Handicap, headline event on the Saturday program.

Gary Tanaka's Ifyouprefersilver will carry high weight of 118 pounds in the 1 1/16-mile Lady Hallie, the traditional local springboard to the $250,000 Sixty Sails Handicap (gr. III) to be held at Hawthorne on April 26.

Ifyouprefersilver scored a thumping 9-length victory in the $150,000 Chou Croute Handicap at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans on Feb. 22. The 4-year-old daughter of Silver Deputy made the race her fifth win in six starts while increasing her career bankroll to $171,910.

Frank Lovato, Jr., who rode Ifyouprefersilver to victory in the Chou Croute, is aboard once again in the Lady Hallie.

Ifyouprefersilver covered the 1 1/16 miles of the Chou Croute in a sprightly 1:45.67. She's trained by Mike Stidham, who characterizes the fleet 4-year-old as "a hard-knocking filly".

James Tafel's Lakenheath, trained by Chicago turf master Gene Cilio, shoulders second high weight of 116 pounds in the Lady Hallie. The 5-year-old homebred daughter of Colonial Affair will have Chris Emigh in the irons.

Lakenheath is remembered by local turf followers for her triumph in last year's $150,000 Arlington Matron Handicap (gr. III) at Arlington Park. She was runner-up to Minister's Baby in the $200,000 Gardenia Stakes (gr. III) at Ellis Park and runner-up to With Ability in the $300,000 Sixty Sails Handicap (gr. III) at Sportsman's.

Completing the Lady Hallie quintet are Curious Conundrum (115, Eusebio Razo, Jr.), Pass the Pepper (113, E.T. Baird), and Barney's Mistress (112, Carlos Silva).

The Lady Hallie is named in honor of Hallie Hart, the wife of longtime National Jockey Club director and mutuel manager Robert Hart, Jr.
