Kulina also said that two consultants have been hired that will help him devote more time to the racing department. One of them is a veteran racing executive who will likely be named in the next few days. Contrary to several published reports, Kulina said the consultants will not be his immediate superiors. Dempsey, who left Monmouth several years ago, returns to a job he held for 21 years. "We're very comfortable having (Mike) come back," said Kulina.
Michael P. Dempsey was named Monmouth Park's racing secretary for the 2003 season Friday, replacing Sean Greely, who was fired by track management earlier this week."(Sean) Greely has definitely been let go," said Robert Kulina, Monmouth's vice president and general manager. "He is a very good person, but we wanted to move in a different direction, and it wasn't quite working out with him. "I'm going to be much more active in the racing department this year than I have in the last decade," said Kulina, who formerly held the position of racing secretary before his appointment to management of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority's flagship racetrack. Kulina said that he has written the first condition book and is overseeing the allotment of stall space.
