Change in Training Schedule at Churchill Downs

A new training schedule will be in place at Churchill Downs following the close of this season's spring meet in order to allow more time for construction crews to move forward on phase II of the $95 million renovation project.

Training will be permitted on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6 a.m. The training hours change is expected to begin about three weeks after the July 6 conclusion of the spring meet and continue until just before the fall meet opens on Oct. 26.

Limited training will allow construction crews to begin work at daylight, and continue up to 16 hours per day with work also expected on Saturdays, the Courier- Journal reported.

During the revised training schedule, the planned demolition of the six-level clubhouse will start. Only the first two levels of the newly rebuilt clubhouse are expected to be completed by the start of the 2004 spring meet. Included in the newly built clubhouse will be a two-level simulcast facility and a large number of third floor box seats.
