Handle Increases at Sunland Park

The recently concluded 2002-2003 Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino live horse racing season posted record gains. Business continued to surge powered by full fields and added racing quality.

Total handle was up over 32% from last season. A record setting $53,954,241was wagered on Sunland Park racing during the 80-day meet. The Sunland Park product grew in popularity from over 600 simulcast locations throughout North America. Wagering on Sunland races increased by nearly 54%. On-track handle on the live races was up nearly 17%.

WinStar Derby Day (March 30) created a series of new Sunland Park records: largest total attendance of 10,617, richest single race purse of $500,000 and highest single race handle of $479,120.
