My Boston Gal Tries to Regain Winning Form

After two losses to open the 2003 campaign, My Boston Gal faces a deep field in Thursday's $250,000 Stonerside Beaumont Stakes (gr. II) at about seven furlongs for 3-year-old fillies at Keeneland.

The daughter of Boston Harbor, undefeated in three races at 2, was fifth in the 1 1/16-mile Davona Dale (gr. II) on Feb. 23 and second in the 1 1/8-mile Bonnie Miss (gr. II) on March 14, both at Gulfstream. In 2002, she won the 1 1/16-mile Golden Rod (gr. II) at Churchill Downs.

With trainer Carl Nafzger looking for a strong effort from My Boston Gal if she is to move forward to the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) on May 2, she's part of a quality field of nine that includes four fillies coming out of stakes victories.

Leading her rivals are Midnight Cry, who won the seven-furlong Stonerside Forward Gal Stakes (gr. III) by 2 3/4 lengths at Gulfstream on March 14, and Adopted Daughter, winner of the one-mile Bourbonette at Turfway Park on March 22.

Elegant Designer, who defeated Midnight Cry by two lengths in the seven-furlong NTRA Great Race State Challenge Juvenile Fillies at Sam Houston on Dec. 7, enters with six wins in her last seven races. She won the March 1 Busher Stakes at Aqueduct at 1 1/16 mile most recently.

Bird Town won the Charon Stakes at seven furlongs by 12 1/2 lengths at Gulfstream on Feb. 23.

Perfect Story, a half sister to 2001 Horse of the Year Point Given, was fourth in the Davona Dale.
