No one will collect the big prize in the National Thoroughbred Racing Association $1 million mystery voucher promotion this year. The winner was from the Oaklawn Park mailing list, but apparently wasn't among the crowd of 61,752 at the Hot Springs, Ark. track Saturday afternoon.Of the 511,000 vouchers sent out in a promotion by the NTRA, some 79,000 of the names came off the Oaklawn mailing list. All but one of those vouchers was worth $2. The exception was one voucher worth a flat $1 million.
And it turned out that the $1 million voucher indeed was arbitrarily sent to a person on the Oaklawn mailing list. However, the individual was required by contest rules to be present Saturday. Therefore, no winner this time around."We did have 8,613 vouchers redeemed at Oaklawn," says Bobby Geiger, director of Oaklawn's mutuel department, "but all were for $2. Unfortunately, the big one got away."
