Humble Fair Mix Wins Group I Prix Ganay

Fair Mix, a 5-year-old bought out of a claiming race, shrugged off his humble background to win Sunday's Group I Prix Ganay at Longchamp.

Ridden by Olivier Peslier and trained by Marcel Rolland, the gray son of Linamix shook loose midway through the straight to finish 2 1/2 lengths ahead of John Hammond's fast-finishing Execute.

Japan Cup winner Falbrav, in his first start for trainer Luca Cumani, also rallied from well back and finished a short head behind Execute in third.

Barry Hills' Chancellor was fourth after tracking the pace and leading briefly in the stretch. Aidan O'Brien's Black Sam Bellamy, who made much of the running, came home a disappointing last in the field of nine.

The French tipping paper Weekend owns Fair Mix, who was eighth in last year's Arc.

Peslier won his third Ganay with Fair Mix, who was 5-1 on the pari-mutuel.
