Monday's NTRA Charities/Kentucky Derby Museum Golf Classic and silent auction at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky., raised approximately $45,000 for NTRA Charities, Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Kentucky Derby Museum's Backside Learning Center and Endowment Fund. Ike Van Meter, a member of team Morehead Properties, took home the event's grand prize, five hours of flying time on a NetJets aircraft, after making a hole-in-one on the famed course's 215-yard 14th hole. "I didn't think I had made it and started walking off the tee," said Van Meter, "but then my caddy started yelling. It's a great thrill." The Kentucky Derby Museum's Backside Learning Center, scheduled to open this fall, will house a library and career academy to provide the track's backstretch workers with educational opportunities. English as a second language classes and seminars to improve employees' interpersonal and life skills, including health-related issues and high school equivalency exam assistance, will be provided.
