Gondolieri Wins Inglewood

Nelson Bunker Hunt's Chilean-bred Gondolieri, ridden by Frank Alvarado, scored an easy victory in Saturday's $103,782 Inglewood Stakes, which was transferred from the turf to the dirt track.

The 4-year-old gelded son of Gold Tribute won his first race in three tries the United States. The 1 1/16-mile Inglewood, a grade IIII originally scheduled for the turf but switched to the main track due to rain, was clocked in 1:40 1/5 on a wet fast track. The field was reduced to four.

Truly A Judge was second with Freefourinternet was third.

Gondolieri, trained by Ron McAnally, settled in behind pacesetter Truly A Judge through fractions of :22 4/5, :46 1/5 and 1:09 before Gondolieri took command in the stretch to win by about three lengths.

Gondolieria, notched his seventh career victory in 10 starts and earned $63,540 with the win, boosting his career earnings to $153,814.

The winner paid $3.40 and $2.40. Truly A Judge, ridden by Iggy Puglisi, returned $2.80. There was no show wagering.
