Frankel to Go With Peace Rules Only

Bobby Frankel finally has his Preakness starter confirmed. Frankel informed Pimlico stakes coordinator David Rollinson Sunday morning that Peace Rules will be his only runner in the second leg of the Triple Cown.

Frankel had decided briefly to run Empire Maker following Saturday's hoopla surrounding a "suspicious" photo that suggested Funny Cide's jockey Jose Santos was carrying an object in his hand. When Churchill Downs stewards called for a full investigation and hearing, Frankel felt he had to point Empire Maker for the Preakness in case any action was taken that would result in the son of Unbridled being placed first in the Derby. But as the case began to look less suspicious by the end of the day, Frankel decided to go back to his original plans.

"It doesn't look like anything is going to happen," Frankel said from his barn at Belmont Sunday morning. "I was only going to run if it looked liked something was going to happen, so I'll just run Peace Rules, which is what I was going to do in the first place."

With the confirmation of Peace Rules, it brings the probable Preakness field to eight. Those definitely running are Funny Cide, Peace Rules, Indian Express, Senor Swinger, Scrimshaw, Champali, Cherokee's Boy, and Midway Road. Also being considered are Kissin Saint and Foufa's Warrior, with New York Hero an outside possibility.

Pointing for the Belmont Stakes are Atswhatimtalknbout, Ten Most Wanted, Ten Cents a Shine, and Dynever and Most Feared, one-two in Saturday's Lone Star Derby.
