Eye of the Tiger, who has earned $122,209 from a record of 6-2-1-2, carried Eibar Coa in the Derby and was previously ridden to a second-place finish in the Coolmore Lexington Stakes (gr. III) by Robby Albarado. Nakatani was in the irons for the colt's third-place finish in the March 22 San Pedro Stakes, but Hollendorfer wouldn't commit to a rider for the Affirmed. "We're not sure who we're going to get to ride yet," Hollendorfer said.
Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer sent John D. Gunther's Eye of the Tiger, a strong fifth in the May 3 Kentucky Derby (gr. I), out for a half-mile work in :48 2/5 handily at Hollywood Park Thursday morning. Jockey Corey Nakatani was aboard the son of American Chance for the work, clocked as the 14th fastest at the distance, which was his first since the Run for the Roses. "He worked really well and is doing well," Hollendorfer said. "He's going to run (at Hollywood Park) next. He's nominated to the (May 26) Laz Barrera (gr. II), but I don't think he'll make that one. He's more likely for the Affirmed Handicap (gr. II) and then maybe the (Swaps (gr. II)." The Affirmed is on June 22, the Swaps July 13.
