Senorita Stakes Features Major Idea

Major Idea, whose three-race winning streak ended when favored in Santa Anita's Providencia Stakes last month, will be out to make amends Saturday in Hollywood Park's $100,000 Senorita Stakes (gr. IIIT) for 3-year-old fillies at one mile on turf.

She will carry high weight of 121 pounds against six rivals in the stepping stone toward the $750,000 American Oaks at Hollywood Park on July 5.

Major Idea, fifth as the 3-2 favorite in the Providencia, will reengage two of the fillies who finished ahead of her of that day: Makeup Artist and Shapes And Shadows. But with $197,110 in earnings for The Thoroughbred Corp. from four victories in nine starts, Major Idea is the field's most accomplished entrant. Her wins include the Sum Sensation and Blue Norther stakes at Santa Anita. Corey Nakatani has replaced Victor Espinoza as the rider for trainer Neil Drysdale.

Makeup Artist closed strongly for second, a neck behind victorious Star Vega in the Providencia. Shapes And Shadows faded to third after setting the pace, losing by 1 3/4 lengths. Major Idea, who finished 4 1/2 lengths behind the winner, raced wide, but had no other excuse.

Little Malvern and Rutters Renegade are imports from England. The latter was particularly consistent overseas while winning three and finished second four times in eight starts. The Irish-bred Rutters Renegade has joined Richard Mandella's barn.
