The national rating for the last 75 minutes of NBC's Preakness Stakes telecast May 17 was down 12% from last year's number of viewers. Because the telecast ran 15 minutes over its 90-minute slot, the race portion of the show is included in the 5:30-6:45 p.m. ET slot measured. The network received a 5.7 rating and a 15 share for that 75-minute slice of its program, down from a 6.5 and 16 share in 2002. Still, the 5.7 represented the third-highest rating for that portion of the show since 1992, according to NBC Sports spokesman Kevin Sullivan. Ratings for the entire program will be available Thursday.
