12th Annual 'Evening in the Bluegrass' Set for Sept. 6

The 12th Annual 'Evening in the Bluegrass' will be held Sept. 6 at John Sikura's Hill 'n' Dale Farm in Lexington, Ky. All proceeds from the dinner and the live and silent auctions will benefit the Shoemaker Foundation.

With the exception of 2002, the Foundation has held its event on Saturday evening prior to the opening of the Keeneland September sale. "The traditional date works well since many people are in town for the sales," said Rod Pitts, executive director of the Shoemaker Foundation. "Additionally, the community has always shown great support for the event and the Foundation. We are excited to be having the event at Hill 'n' Dale Farms.

The organizing committee will soon announce the honoree, as well as the entertainment, for the event. In the past, honorees have included John Gaines, Bob and Beverly Lewis, Dr. Alex Harthill, and Anita and Preston Madden.

The Shoemaker Foundation was established in 1991 and was named in honor of renowned jockey Bill Shoemaker. The Foundation actively assists members of the racing community in need of financial assistance to respond to cases of catastrophic illness or injury where all insurance benefits and other sources of aid are insufficient.

Evening in the Bluegrass will feature fine dining, dancing and entertainment, and a live and silent auction. Festivities will begin at 6:00 pm. Invitations will be mailed in late July, or you may call (310) 419-1518 for ticket information.
