Redattore, winner of the Shoemaker Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT) on the Hollywood Park grass Monday, could return on the dirt in the $750,000 Hollywood Gold Cup (gr. I) on July 13, trainer Richard Mandella said Thursday from his Santa Anita stable office.
"He came back super, and the Gold Cup is under consideration," said Mandella of the 8-year-old Brazilian-bred millionaire, a graded stakes winner on dirt and turf.
"It's possible he could run back in the ($400,000 at 1 1/8 miles on dirt) Californian June 14, but it's back kind of quick and I will probably run Kudos there. Redattore would also be possible for the Whittingham ($350,000 at 1 1/4 miles on grass) that day but Cagney and Gigli are more likely for that one."
Julio Canani, trainer of runner-up Special Ring, said the 6-year-old came back in good shape and could make his next start in the $250,000 Firecracker Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IIT) at Churchill Downs on July 5.
