Ten monetary awards worth $1,000 each will be given away by random drawing to graduating high school seniors and college students in attendance at Churchill Downs on Sunday as the track joins with the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association to present the annual "KTA Scholarship Day." Students must register in person at the track to be eligible for the random drawings and must be present to win. Interested students may register between 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. (all times EDT) at the guest service center located adjacent to the statue of Aristides near the Churchill Downs Paddock. Students will be admitted free to the track on Sunday if they present a valid student ID. Nine awards are open to any student in attendance. One scholarship will be presented by random drawing after each of the day's first nine races. A 10th award, after Sunday's 10th race, goes to a Churchill Downs employee, horseman or an immediate family member in the Thoroughbred racing industry.
The Kentucky Thoroughbred Association is an organization of leading Kentucky horsemen founded in 1983.
