September Secret Retired

Grade III winner September Secret has been retired, owner/trainer Mike Machowsky said, and will likely be bred this year. The 4-year-old daughter of Our Emblem finished fourth in the Genuine Risk Handicap (gr. II) at Belmont Park in her last start May 11.

"Her knees have been bothering her," Machowsky said. "I've already been through two knee surgeries with her and she's had some trouble with quarter cracks behind, so I decided it was best to go ahead and retire her. I could have kept on going with her, but she's been too good to me to do that to her."

September Secret won the Railbird Stakes (gr. III) at Hollywood Park last year before being sidelined for nine months after knee surgery. The filly returned this year to finish third in the Las Flores Handicap (gr. III) and win an allowance race at Keeneland by a widening five lengths before her fourth in the Genuine Risk.

From two seasons, the Kentucky-bred filly won four of seven starts, with one third, for earnings of $181,943.
